Kylo is a large, handsome 1 year and 5 month old boy. He is
looking for a new home because his owner has to work long shifts and is
unable to give Kylo the levels of exercise and stimulation that he
needs as a young GSD.
When our volunteer approached Kylo's home he barked loudly, but
quietened down and was immediately friendly as soon as the door to the
house was opened. When our volunteer entered the house Kylo was excited
but remained friendly. He calmed down very quickly and sat beside his
owner on the couch for most of the visit. He did approach our volunteer
a few times during the visit and was calm and good natured. Kylo does
like to mouth his owners hand, but does so in a gentle and playful
manner.
Kylo has lived with a young child and still gets visits. However, as
usual with our dogs that might be rehomed with children, any child in
the new home would need to be 10 or older.
Our volunteer accompanied Kylo and his owner on a walk. At the start of
the walk Kylo barked loudly although there were no people or dogs about.
At intervals during the walk Kylo barked loudly at and pulled towards a
cat, some dogs and some people – although he walked quietly past many
other people during the walk. His owner does let Kylo off lead if the
area is quiet. However, he puts Kylo back on lead if people or dogs
appear, as Kylo's recall is not reliable if distractions/attractions
appear.
Kylo's owner says that Kylo likes to travel in the car, but can be vocal
at passing dogs or people. Kylos owner advises that he is fine with dogs that he knows but our volunteer did not see him close to another dog so it is unknown to us how he reacts.
