Bear

Meet Bear a 2 year old handsome Sable boy.

When our volunteer went to meet Bear, they were greeted by a big bouncy boy who was standing on his hind legs at the fence barking loudly.  When they produced a handful of treats he was immediately more interested in the gifts he was being offered, he is very food driven. He sat for a treat but was nudging to be given more, as the volunteer was bearing tasty gifts he let them into the house.

Once inside he was still very focused on seeing if there were anymore treats and took a while to settle and lie down. He isn't used to strangers coming into his house as he's often put in the garden when family visit as  due to his bark.  This is something that will need to be worked on and given how food driven he is this should be quite straight forward given the correct training.

Bear has been to a few training classes and has some basic commands, but any new owner would need to be consistent with training to make him the great dog that he has potential to be.

He will need work done on his recall and focus, and will chase wildlife if given the chance.

His owner currently walks him using a halti style figure of 8 lead to give them more control. If he sees another dog, he wants to pull to get to them and will also bark at them.

Bear has accidentally worked out how to open doors so his new owner will need to be mindful of this.  Bear can also jump fences, (as per GSRS rules, any new home would need to a have a fully secure garden with a fence at least 6ft high).  Bear would possibly enjoy agility training.

Bear does currently live with 2 children who he gets along fine with, but strange children can be scared  his bark so he will not be rehomed where young kids visit.

Bear has such great potential to be a fantastic boy for the correct person  who has had GSD experience and understands the typical traits of the breed
