Zara was one of the early rescues - she was on the site almost from the day of the launch in April 2008. You can see more about her then in the “Success Stories”.
She was four years old when we adopted her and, to be honest, she was a bit of a beast! But, there was a lovely dog inside waiting to be coaxed out. There’s no denying she was hard work; it took quite some time to bond with her and longer still to deal with her many issues.
Slowly but surely a beautiful, sensitive, loyal, bright, funny girl emerged. She would never be totally comfortable with strangers or other dogs, but at least she came to tolerate them if they kept at a respectable distance. Old age finally mellowed her out.
And what a stunner she was. We were delighted when Zara became a Rescue calendar pin-up . . . Miss March 2011!
The photo above was one of the last before we lost her at the ripe old age of fourteen.
We are so happy to have had Zara share our lives for ten years. And she is proof, if it’s needed, that there is a home for every dog and that every dog deserves a second chance, no matter how bad a start they had in life.
