Well a year ago we lost 2 of our beautiful boys within the space of 2 weeks. To say we were heartbroken was an understatement! Our house wasn't a home without them and we were all very lost. We decided not long after to look for another dog. We thought it would have to be a puppy to grow up with our 2 boys aged 12 and 16. After looking on the internet we found the german shepherd rescue and gave them a call. I spoke to carolyn who said she didnt think there were any dogs suitable. I was disappointed as we had previously had a rescue dog and although he came with his own problems we lived our lives around these.
Within about 30 minutes i had a call back from carolyn to say there was 2 GSD's in kennels that maybe suitable and would we like to travel to Edinburgh to see them! We were delighted so arranged an appointment and went to visit.
The first dog we saw wasn't really suitable for us and
then we were introduced to our "Goofy." A 2 year old black and tan GSD. We took him a walk and knew straight away he was "the one" After a sucessful home check our boy came to live with us.
The first few months were interesting as Blake learned to treat our house as his home and we taught him the house rules. We had a few hiccups at the start but Blake learned pretty quickly that we loved him unconditionally. He enjoys the freedom of our garden, playing ball with
our 2 boys and long walks.
I must say that goofy is such a good nickname for him as he is the most peculiar dog i have ever met! He has loads of energy to play and wants to be with people. He is obsessed with balls so running a football club has given us an endless supply! When any of us are hurt he is the first to check we are okay and stays close until he knows everything is fine. Hes built an unbreakable bond with my now 17 year old son who treats him like a brother. They even share a bed and sometimes even a cover.
Blake is the perfect dog for us and we couldnt imagine not having him in our lives. Our boys enjoy rough and tumble play with him and teaching him new tricks. and Dorothy i can't thank you enough for giving us our boy. We are truely grateful. You do an amazing job at the rescue. Selfless acts of kindness for GSD's that need to be rehomed. I hope that others looking for a German Shepherd consider contacting the German Shepherd Rescue Scotland. Dorothy's experience and dedication is second to none. Keep up the good work. X
