Marley

Marley

My wife and I owned our first German Shepherd shortly after we were married. When our eighth GSD died aged over 13 in April of this year we sadly thought that we were too old to take on another dog. We just couldn’t imagine sharing our home with any other type of dog. However, someone suggested that we should contact German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) and consider the possibility of rehoming an adult dog.

We are extremely glad we took that advice and since the end of May we have been fortunate enough to have Marley, an 8 year old German Shepherd, living with us.

We were pleasantly surprised by how soon after we contacted German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) we were visited by Dorothy and Carolyn. They came to assess whether or not we were suitable people to re-home one of the dogs on their list. It is possible that the numerous models of GSDs displayed round our house and the many photographs of our eight previous German shepherds in our 74 photograph albums helped convince them that they would be able to match us to a dog that needed rehoming.

From their first visit they began to let us know about particular dogs on their website but none of them felt right. Then they phoned us about 8 year old Marley and shortly afterwards they brought him to visit us and we agreed to take him.

We feel that we have been extraordinarily lucky because Marley is such a lovely dog and has settled in and adapted to living with us very rapidly. He is proving to be a faithful and loyal companion with excellent manners.

After a while we were able to let him off the lead to run free because his recall is excellent and his behaviour with other dogs impeccable.

Marley was a little overweight but with regular walks which he clearly greatly enjoys he has lost 4 kilos. He has become a very cheerful dog again and his tail is constantly in motion. It is clear that Marley was well brought up because we could not fault his behaviour in any way. He is now fixed on me and follows me everywhere. If we are separated for a moment or two the greeting I get on my return is most enthusiastic.

So- thank you German Shepherd Rescue (Scotland).
